Microblogging is a web service that allows users to post small pieces of digital content, such as text, links, pictures and other media types within a social networking website. The most popular microblogging site at the moment is Twitter. Other users within this network will have access to create, share and view micro blogs, update profiles and interact with anyone who is also part of the service.
As well as being very useful for friends and groups to interact with each other it is ideal for educational purposes. Sites such as Edmodo allow students and teachers to share anything from assignments to educational events with each other. This allows the user to save any piece of work to the site and access from anywhere, place of study, home or work. Infact, it almost seems as though email could well be a thing of the past, as sites like Facebook and Twitter make communication so much more efficient.
